Walking Away part 2

July 20, 2010
It’s July 2010, and the housing market still sucks, house prices have dropped even lower. We still own, but its not worth it.

We paid 144k for our condo. Condos in our community are short selling for less than 25k. Do the math, it’s not pretty.

Chris says to me, “So we made a bad business decision”.

I flip the fuck out… “You don’t make a business decision when it comes to having a roof over your families head”.

I was so mad… Why? He was right. (Yes Internet, he was right. Don’t let that get your head to big, hun) We were cramped, we couldn’t go play outside, because our HOA wasn’t keeping up with the grass or scorpion problems.

In November we stopped making our mortgage payments.

Not because we couldn’t afford it, but because it wasn’t worth it financially to us.

We walked away from our home.

To make it even more heartbreaking, it was our first house together. We brought Liam home from the hospital there, had birthday parties, family dinners and watched the boys grow out of being babies.

It’s hard knowing that the road you have chosen to take will eventually leave you with 7 years of horrible credit, not being able to purchase a car or anything on credit a credit card, much less even get a credit card or a loan…

I am still upset over it. We are being optimistic about all of this, we didn’t know this was going to happen, no one did. I know that we aren’t the only people that are going through this. Hundreds of thousands of men and women are going through this too, and some of them are losing the places they call home because they got in over their heads, and they have children. Nothing is ever easy when you have kids.

Acts of Kindness Part 1

July 9, 2010

Today was a long day for me, the boys woke up with the chickens, and hit the floor running, with request to go swimming coming in at 7 am. By 4:30 pm I was running low on energy and ways to keep them going, so that they would pass out once they hit their beds.

I talked to Chris about that same time, and he suggested taking the boys to McDonalds for dinner. That way they can play and have dinner all in one shot. I have really been watching what we eat and how we spend our money, so McDonalds is a very rare outing for us.

They were ecstatic to be going! Liam loves running all about in the tunnels they have in the play area! They both scarfed down a cheese burger, and their apple juice in now time flat! You would have thought we were having a five star meal by how happy they were, and me being so disgusted in they crap that made them that happy…

#Epicfail McDonalds…

Liam had taken the toy from his meal into the play set, and was playing with another boy (age 5 or so) and that boy lost his toy.

No biggy. Right?

Well, the boy went over and got his unopened toy and gave it to Liam. I was watching all this happen! My son, who wasn’t really bothered by losing it, was completely confused when the boy gave him his toy…

I was looking at liam and the boy turns to me and says “It’s fair, I lost his toy in there somewhere”, pointing to the play set.

I was amazed at how that little boy handled that situation. He didn’t have to give Liam his toy. Liam wasn’t upset, his Mom didn’t say to do it. He just did, out of the pure kindness of his heart.

It showed me that there are going to be good kids for my son’s to find as friends! That little boy took away so many of my worries I have for my oldest son to start school this year!

Walking Away part 1

July 3, 2010

I’m sure a lot of you have noticed that my posting here, have been pretty light lately…

Life as been everything but calm. Stressful and sad is how I would describe it. But also happy and freeing!

Three and a half years ago (2-18-2007) Chris and I bought our town house! Our lease was up in our apartment, and I was 7 months pregnant with Liam. The housing market had been slowing for about a year at that point, so home prices had started to drop.

I didn’t want to buy, but Chris and our agent really pushed me into doing it. Chris thought that if we were to wait a year we would miss our chance, and would have to continue renting.  Did I mention that our next door neighbor was this man (that happened 2 months after we moved out of those apartments).

So we bought…

We thought we were getting such a steal! We got a remodeled apartment conversion condo, it was 949 sqft,  2 bed, 1.5 bath, all new appliances, tile floors, garnet counter tops. We were in-love with it! The area had new stores, and it was right up against  a mountain! You could hear the coyotes howling at night!

Fast forward three years…

An Eclipse it was

July 2, 2010

I was fortunate enough to get away from the crazy that is my life right now, to go to the opening of Eclipse, a movie based off of the Novel “Eclipse” by Stephanie Myers. I’m sure most readers will know what I am talking about here! Unless you have been living under a rock… If so go buy the Twilight Saga Box Set, and you will soon be hooked to the best vampire books since Ann Rice!

My good friend Amy and I bought our tickets for the Trilogy! For 20 bucks we saw Twilight at 7, New Moon at 9:30 and then the showing of Eclipse at midnight!

Amy was in line at 11:45am Tuesday morning so we would have good seats! Can you believe that she WAS NOT the 1st person in line? Not 2nd, 3rd or 4th… We were 14th and 15th in line. Not shabby for such a big movie!

I will say hands down, that was the best time I have had in years! The two of us were surrounded by teenagers, who had Beiber Fever, Teen Bop and Tiger Beet magazines, spray bottles filled with water for water fights, books, gum,  dancing and singing! Oh the joy of hanging out with them for the afternoon, evening and night!

There was the Team Edward and Team Jacob shirts, some girls were even dressed up as some of the charters! We chose to go in normal mortal clothes, seeing that we were sitting on the floor of the theater lobby for 6 hours, before being allowed into the theater, so we wanted to be comfy! We even brought pillows and ate like fat kids!

Amy got us some popcorn with extra butter! Then she put white cheddar over the top and then we dipped it into nacho cheese! SO. FREAKING. GOOD.

It felt good getting out! I felt young, and alive! I felt like a female again! I swear in the right environment, teen girls are fun to be around! Plus we all had one thing in common…

WE LOVE THE TWILIGHT SAGA!!!

The thing that divided us was… Are you TEAM EDWARD? Or TEAM JACOB?

I happen to be TEAM EDWARD! I have a thing for pale guys that sparkle!

Eclipse was my favorite book from the set, and I was a little nervous to see the movie, because New Moon sucked as a movie…

I was pleasantly surprised to see that they did follow and quote the book pretty well!

It was a good movie, and a great day out with a ton of girls!

1. What is your favorite thing about summertime?
Everything! The longer days, the newness of the sunshine, swimming, 4th of July, fireworks, swimming, great summer movies, the non-stop playing of “Dirty Dancing”, school shopping! I just love summer! I always have, I don’t mind the heat, and I love to swim!

2. What is your ideal retirement location (if money didn’t matter)?
The east cost! I was a beach house on the east coast, but would also need a beach house on the West coast for the winter, because I do not like cold weather… Not one bit…

3. Do you live in the same town you grew up in?
Nope! My Dad does though! I was born in Winslow Arizona! Most commonly know for the line “I was standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona, such a fine sight to see.”. “Take it Easy” by The Eagles. I go back there every now and then, but Scottsdale Arizona is my hometown now!

4. What nervous habit did you have as a child that you kicked to the curb before becoming an adult?
Nail bitting… It was a gross habit, and I have such nice strong nails now to show for kicking that to the curb!

5. What is the most embarrassing thing that happened to you while on the job?
Oh, while working at Wells Fargo I was in the vault room and ripped ass… It was a VER small room, 8×8 maybe? Ya, it stunk. Yes, I was in there with a guy… No, guys don’t think its cute when girls fart…
